2000 9-3 SE Battery Drain +30 Fuses in main panel Posted by Michael Vuozzo [Email] (#803) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michael Vuozzo) on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 09:44:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The battery in my 2000 convertible with 105K miles on it has been running down overnight for the last couple of weeks. This weekend I narrowed it down to the two +30 circuits in the main fuse box next to the battery. With both fuses in, the light is about half bright I pull number 1 and it goes to very dim, pull number two and it goes out completely. I tested with a meter and I think it is drawing about 1 amp. No other symptoms, the key cylinder pops up all the way the radio goes off. One other thing, the neutral safety switch is bad and I've bypassed it by jumping from fuse #36 to the starter relay but I removed the bypass and the amp draw was not affected.
I've done an extensive search of the archives, there is a lot of talk about battery drain but no mention of the +30 fuses in the main box.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to narrow it down further ? Could it be a short in the ignition switch ? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated
