I am concerned my replacement fuel pump may not be my problem. Hooking up the replacement to the connectors caused the fuel guage to register but the pump did not make a sound.
I am halfway through the process for replacing the fuel pump on my '97 SAAB 900 SE-T. Based on all the audio/visual inspections I could pull off
(no sound from the pump when key turned), I figured age and poor fuel level management had done in the fuel pump.
Picked up a complete fuel pump assembly from my "dealer" (English-Swedish
Car Spares in Alpharetta, Georgia. Actually participated in the transplant ritual to "harvest the replacement pump from a 9-5 that had
just come in.
Chose to remove the bottoms of the back seat at their hinges and peel back the carpeting so I had plenty of room.
Once the current fuel pump was exposed, I removed the connector from it since it was different from what the 9-5 had (not at the pump connector but at the other end(s). 9-5 has one connector for all wires. 900 has two connectors.
Decided -- for some gut reason -- to check out the pump "dry" to see if
it made noise when I turned the key. IT didn't!.
I respect I've added another variable to what was wrong.
I am wondering now if my problem lies in the relay buried under the dash.
Is there another relay on the car I could "borrow" just to see if that was the original problem or not.
Got to get some electrical testing gear to avoid this in the future!
Thanks for any and all suggestions -- and jokes at my expense.
