The only time I can really remember having the "sleepy ECU" issue is on the freeway after hours of driving. I believe the ECU is advancing the timing for fuel efficiency and due to the long periods of time involved, does not have safe data in the ECU so it will know how much boost and such it can get away with. So it takes a couple runs where it gradually increases the boost until it detects knock, then it knows the safe limits. I don't see the intercooler making any difference with this behaviour.
The wet noodle issue I was speaking about was when you're out playing around and constantly mashing the gas. With the stock intercooler, about half of the time the intercooler is too hot and the ECU has to back off the boost and timing. So when you mash the gas, you get boost half-way into the yellow only. THAT ISSUE IS GONE. I hot rod it around town all day in 80F and I always get top of the yellow. Very consistent...
