like for $200/month, it'd be $2,400/yr for at least 2 years, or $4,800. And you'd have to replace that car when the lease is up. I looked into a low cost lease last year for my daughter and it just didn't make sense. Even though the car she's driving (one of my 9Ks) has needed work, it's still a lot cheaper to keep than a newer one, especially when you figure in the lower registration and insurance costs on an older car.
I'm a believer in running it til it drops, provided it's not costing the same as a payment every month in repairs. Even big stuff, like a clutch, are justifiable if the car is otherwise sound and running well. There are lots of well-maintained Saabs out there with over 200K on the clock.
Just keep it up to snuff and fix stuff as it wears out and you'll be ahead of the game while in school.
