oil light shenanigans Posted by camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from camm) on Tue, 6 Sep 2011 20:40:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The car: 1999 9-3 SE HOT, 129k
The issue: Driving home from work today, my oil light and chime repeatedly came on, flickered, and went off again. It came on typically when I was idling, like at a light; when I sped up, the light went off.
I got home, searched the boards here, and fearing the worst, pulled the valve cover off looking for sludge. Not really any to speak of; the cams, cam gears, inside of the valve cover, etc. were all clean. I put the car up on ramps, drained the oil, and used Anders' wire tool to check the pan for sludge. Again, it was resoundingly negative.
I refilled the car with Mobil 1 5W-20(I think), put a new filter on, and went for a spin around the block. Car ran fine, as usual, and the oil light stayed off.
I'm going to park the car for the time being, until I get a handle on this.
What does this sound like to you all?
Thanks in advance.
