Power steering line nightmare. Posted by camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from camm) on Sat, 29 Oct 2011 11:05:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The P/S pressure line(to rack inlet side) rusted out right by one of the clamps. I ordered a new hose from a site sponsor, and I got into replacing it this morning. All was going well until I tried to unscrew the two lines - the union up by the radiator wouldn't come apart. As it turns out, the nut that should slide up and down and spin on the metal line is frozen on to the line. I got the old rusted line off by cutting it close to the frozen nut and unscrewing it.
At this point, I've tried all sorts of persuasion to get the nut to turn, so I can install the new line, but it's not budging. I've unscrewed the rack side line from the union up by the firewall to remove it, but cannot get the line out of the car. So far, I have the battery, P/S reservoir, and coolant reservoir line all removed, and I 'm not seeing how it's possible to remove the line. What is the trick? How on earth do you get that line out of the car?
