I have a 1994 Saab 900s with an automatic transmission with 160,000 miles. Last year, after owning it only a few months, it began to lose power after driving a mile or two. The shifter would be in drive, but it wouldn't go forward or backwards. It would just rev and roll down the hill if it wasn't braked. However, if you turn the car off, wait a few minutes, and restart it, it shifts fine until the cycle repeats itself a few minutes later. The check gearbox light would come on. There doesn't seem to be a âlimp-homeâ mode; the car just wonât move.
We had the engine and transmission mounts replaced, and a friend of mine paid a mechanic to go in and change the fluid. I think he said it was dirty but not much metal in the old fluid. I've been reading a lot about the solenoids and switches. I'm aware that these transmissions need to be opened up to service them. Our local picknpull just got in an identical Saab like ours. We grabbed the TCM from this car and tried it in our car. but there was no change. Any ideas? We don't have a code reader. I love this car and would love to see it run again. I can't help but feeling that this is an electrical problem since the transmission runs strong when you first start it every time.
Thank you for any help or info.
