Just sharing my experience regarding replacing shocks.
I have a 1999 viggen with 100k and just redid the front end which included koni adjustable shocks. I found once the whole strut/spring/disc assembly was removed it was very difficult to apply a counter torque when tightening the strut retaining nut. I used a pipe wrench and pipe clamp and a buddy to tighten it as much as possible. After a few hundred miles of driving it started rattling regardless of whether the road was smooth or not. I found the top 19(?) mm nut in the strut mount had come loose and retorqued it, only to have the rattling reappear. After reviewing here I found the retaining nut can come loose and was dreading having to disassemble to entire front end to retorque it. Instead I jacked up the car, which dropped the retaining nut quite a bit and opened up the spring and I was able to slide the pipe wrench in between the spring coils to tighten the retaining nut. I applied a countertorque by pressing on the caliper to keep the whole assembly from turning. Took it for a spin and the rattling is gone.
The issue was on the driver's side and I have not had a problem with the passenger side yet.
