So after disassembling the ignition and cleaning it out, and removing the starter top bolt, I lifted the car up to start running some tests or removing the starter itself and I found that by looking from a different angle, the large positive red wire and the small yellow wire had come into contact and fused together at a small spot.

separated them, insulated them and the car seems fine now. I did move the large positive red wire away from the yellow though.

What could have possibly caused them to melt & short?

Does the the large red wire get hot under load? Could constant cranking cause the heat that caused the melt? I'm starting to suspect maybe the switch was initially at fault and caused the issue at the starter end...

Any guesses?
