Cranking but no start. Not fuel pump?

'98 900 SE 5-Speed w/mods. 206k

So i did a bunch of searching on the boards, and this issue seems to point to one of two things. CPS, or fuel pump. Maybe DIC too, but less likely, i think?

First off, how it started (or didn't). I pulled into a quick mart parking lot, shut her down, went in for a beverage and a sandwich, came out to a cranking car. Its cold out, but not terrible. 40ish deg F. My first thought was maybe its a CPS, so ill let it cool down. Let it cool for 8 hours. No change.

No codes. Just wont fire up. Cranks over, and tries to catch once in 30 seconds of cranking or so...but doesnt. After trying to crank it for a while, it will backfire, even after the key is off. Sometimes almost 30 seconds after im out of the car. If the DIC went, id think id see a misfire code, no?

Anyway, fuel pump runs/primes when i turn the key. And i smell fuel. So maybe not that?

If its the CPS, is there one i can pick up at a local parts shop? I remember seeing a NAPA equiv in some thread, but cant find it now.

Thoughts?
