ZING!!! went the idler pulley!

Was about mile and a half from home today in the '00 9-3SE when I heard this ZING! from under the hood. Engine still running, alternator light faintly blinking. I stop and look. Belt still on and turning, have PS, etc., but serp belt is loose. Huh...
I gently drive a half mile and CLUNK! the idler pulley disintegrates, no PS, alternator light on, etc. I stop, look again, and call AAA. I have no time to work on it right now and the car is scheduled at my indy for a water pump, belt, tensioner and pulleys next week anyway, so it got a ride to his shop.
Sure beats having it fail when I was bringing the car up from Georgia a few weeks back! Near as I can tell, the pulley had been on there for over 77K miles. Belt for about 65K. I always do them together, but not everyone does.
On a different note...
Noticed the other day that the brake booster hose that goes to the intake manifold was really loose. I was also getting full boost when I floored the gas but the boost gauge wouldn't go to the red. When the car was in for state inspection my indy replaced the red bushing on the brake booster line which improved the brakes AND the boost gauge now goes to the red.
This car is surprisingly quick. It's supposed to be the replacement for the 9K that daughter #1 killed in December, but I'm kinda liking it. Has a GS rear bar, steering rack brace, poly bushes in control arms. Hmmm.
