Hello all,

I had posted a while back concerning no start on cold mornings. Turned out to be the CPS so thanks for that.

Looking at a 2001 9 3 2.0 l base with 127 k.

Now I'm getting other problems. It started on this past Friday morning when I noticed a metallic whistle coming from the passenger side. Was not able to detect where it was coming from exactly as when inspecting under the hood I couldn't hear it. Skip to later on that night and I was sitting at a stop light. Noticed the tach showing 1000 rpms and it quickly dipped to 800 or 900 rpms and then the car shuddered and would go back up to 1000. The dipping and coming back up was quick like 3 seconds or so after it would dip it would go back up.

We drove it a bit further and got stopped at a red light. This time there was a huge plume of white smoke out the back. Temperature gauge stayed normal. This went on for about 15 to 20 seconds. We later heard a faint pop. It stopped before we got the green light. I pulled over and got out to inspect. No issues other than the exhaust smelling like burnt rubber or some sort. Not rotten eggs or anything but just burnt.

Drive it home with no issues, idling or otherwise.

The next morning started it up and got a really awful sounding whine from the turbo area. Like when you don't have enough fluid in your power steering. No smoke at this moment.

Skip to today I have driven it maybe 15 miles or so and I'm starting to get smoke when idling and playing with the throttle cable produced white smoke out of the tail pipe and some smoke coming up from underneath the heat shield below the air bypass pipe.

Turbo still shows boost, though it does seem slightly sluggish.

It looks like it has the updated pcv kit, but I'm unsure of which one it is. Bought used and no maintenance records.

What I have performed recently: CPS replacement, fuel filter replacement, and spark plug replacement, air bypass valve replaced and set to 12 psi, plus vacuum lines replaced with silicone lines.

Could I be looking at oil seals on the turbo going bad or failure of the turbo itself or maybe a gasket popped loose? Or vacuum line that I didn't see is broken?

Thanks again guys!
