The crucial thing is to do fault tracing in a specific way.
The 110V test light might not work. You could rig up a bulb if you have one or get a cheap test light from any autopart stores.
If you DO NOT have power at the wiring to fuel pump, it is no chance you will hear any buzz from the pump and you would have to search for the problem at another place.
If you have power at the wire and hear nothing, it is a pretty clear cut case of pump or wiring through lid being bad and in both cases the pump has to come out.
