Just had the same thing happen to me. My pulley would slide into the compressor and make noise intermittently...back and forth....
Does it still blow cold?
If you do a search you will find that some replace the clutch bearing..
My Indy was not supportive of replacing the bearing, since he stated that it still would require the compressor to be removed, fixed and reinstalled, and that I wouldn't be saving any real money after I pay for the labor, discharge and recharge , the drier and the expansion valve in order to do it right. And then of course if that didn't fix it, I would be spending more.
Some have stated here that they can remove the clutch, and replace the bearing while leaving the compressor in place.
If you're mechanically capable, then you may want to try to replace the bearing leaving the compressor in place....would cost you not much and may be worth the try....otherwise it's pretty pricey repair if you need to replace the compressor , drier and evaporator.
