I'm sorry to hear that the problem can't be fixed by updating the ECU.
The post I found was through a search of this forum for ECU reset, so I must have skipped over the title or text where it referred to 9-3 rather than NG 900. Oops!
When it is acting up, giving it some gas pedal kills it, for what that's worth. You mentioned FI power and ground signals. Would it make sense to check all of the ground connections on the car? I know bad grounds can wreak havoc on BMW's of the same vintage.
Even though it's a workaround, as the computer guys call it, what do you think of my idea of wiring in an interior ECU reset switch. It always solves the problem for a period of time, even if not permanently.
Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, we're in the Midwest. Otherwise, the car would be at your shop door.
