Hello,
I believe the motor is right behind the acc control panel. If you pop it out you should see it. Most likely your heater box is deformed. There was a bulletin to deform the box and lubricate it which works well if no one has gone and sprayed some lube in the heater box. The problem was the dash/cowl is lower in the 9-3 then the ng900 and for 1999 and part of 2000 they used the same heater box then they discovered it was getting squashed and binding. It showed up much quicker in the manual climate control cars. I will attempt to find the bulletin or it is possible they sent us a video tape but that might have been the 9-5 heater box repair on the video tape. The grease they used to lubricate it is the only one I would use because it seems to not goo up and make the problem worse. It was part number 87 81 718 originally then it came in a larger tube part number 90167353. It is the same grease they used for sway bar bushing lubrication. Good Luck, Bernie at George Riggin Specialty Automotive
