Cautionary tale for other recent Viggen owners Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I am still checking things off my maintenance list for the Viggen convertible I purchased last August with only 66K miles. Today was replacement of the front brake rotors which had worn through the machined grooves.
The car has obviously had pads replaced not too long ago but I am confident the front rotors were still factory original. Three hours later I succeeded in replacing two rotors! They were solidly rusted fast to the hubs and much of the time was spent spraying with PB Blast and beating the old rotors with a hammer to eventually break them free. I feared the caliper bracket mounting bolts would be the bugaboo but those weren't bad using a rubber mallet to strike the end of a long profile 18mm wrench.
If you have a older car with low miles and original rotors, Remove them now, even if you reinstall the old ones after removal. I still have the rear rotors waiting to battle me.
