I have never had to prime an engine so I don't know how much.
I would more suspect something happened with the oil pump work or that some debris was introduced into the oil pressure relive valve and you don't have full oil pressure.
Did you turn the outer oil pump ring the right way? The dot facing out.
If you worked on older Saab's where you placed the oil pump ring into the housing first, the dot faced inwards on those.
Did you drop the oil pump ring when pulling off the cover? I did that once and the ring fell to the floor with a little tink noise and the ring had cracked.
