I don't thnk you will be happy with only 2 feet. Here is how I drop the engine out: I install a engine support bar across the inner fenders and then take out the sub frame and get the engine ready to drop. I then put a couple of old large pickup truck tires on the floor where I want to set the engine. I lower the car to where it is normally setting. I then roll an engine crane into place. This is a lifting arm on rollers. I hook the crane to the lifting points where my engine support is located and remove the engine support. I lower the engine onto the tires using the hydraulic cylinder of the crane. I then remove the crane and run the car up on the lift so I can then roll the shop crane under the car to pick up the engine so I can split off the transmission and mount the engine on a engine stand. I suppose you could do all that with about 3 feet but close to 6 foot is a lot better.
