Catch 22 Stuck door lock (locked!) - How to open?

Hi. 1999 9-3 SE 4 door.
Recently the passenger front door got stuck locked. The key fob unlock 'tries' to unlock it, you see it jiggle a bit and all 3 other doors buttons go up, but the door lock snaps back down without ever unlocking. Pulling manually does't help, it 'feels' bound up inside like a linkage thing or something.
Oddly last month it 'fixed itself' for about a month, then again, one day it just won't unlock again. I should have opened the door panels while it was fixed (but then again it wasn't broke as the adage goes, so why would i have), but now it's stuck again, and i have no idea how i can open the door or take the panels off to investigae especially closed with it so close to the passenger seat, i can't imagine i'll be getting much access with screw drivers in there...
Or can i? How do i address this catch 22: open the door to gain access to the linkage/lock problems while the door is closed&locked up? help.
Thanks,
Tom.
