Legitimate concern but not plan altering Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 10 Aug 2016 11:37:21 In Reply to: Convertible nightmare or not?, GFW3pedals [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 10 Aug 2016 07:04:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Parts are mostly still available, some are expensive. I recently bought two limit switches for my convertible top because the left side switch on the upper pivot point is acting flaky. Figured I may as well replace both, or at least have a spare for the other one. So far I have not installed the switch. Price per switch was $56 IIRC
Rebuilt hydraulic rams and all new hoses are $1500 for the full kit from quality aftermarket sources (see JustinHIFI's posts) at a fraction of NOS prices. Rebuilt pumps are also available at a fraction of NOS prices.
There is a limit switch on the 5th bow (latches the fabric top to the tonneau cover) that may be NLA but has been McGyver'd by other owners from easily available generic parts.
I bought my 2000 'vert three years ago and had my only minor convertible top problem (the switch) early this summer. Yesterday it worked fine. Other times it will not lower 100% on the left side to latch. I push the top up button for a brief second, press top down again, and the top fully closes and latches
Nothing like a top down drive in the summer time. It was 74 degrees here at 6:30am so it was a top down morning commute for me!
