I suspect that in the course of installing the new battery and cleaning up the terminals you have provided a much better Ground and all the electronic sensors will be happier. The true test will be if the problem remains solved.
Yes, a quart of oil every 1K miles is excessive. If you are leaking the oil it must be making a huge mess. I spent quite a bit of time a few weekends ago with a gallon of Simple Green, a spray bottle, and some brushes getting the engine and engine compartment cleaned up on my 2002. Now I can actually begin to see where the oil is leaking from.
