Your catalytic converter have melted down Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Sun, 26 May 2019 08:52:47 In Reply to: Lack of power after DiC failure, JeffR [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 26 May 2019 07:11:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When the IDM fails at speed and with hot engine, the spark disappear but fuel injectors keeps pumping fuel right into the glowing hot precat creating a more or less complete melt down of the honeycomb insert so now the exhaust fumes cannot escape out the tail pipe.
Was it an after market IDM or genuine? If genuine, what model/year? This photo is kind of dated by now but mostly accurate.
The newer genuine ones don't have a habit of dying suddenly like that but plenty of the cheap after market ones do what the first generation genuine one did, which led to a extended warranty of the IDM and in some cases the catalytic converter.
