Windshield options these days?

My 2000 9-3 got a chip in the bottom center of the windshield the first week after I bought it new. Insurance covered Safelite fixing/patching the chip with the resin repair and that has been fine ever since. Although the 9-3 does not get driven as much these days as it is not my daily driver....today when I took it run some errands I saw that there is now a 5" crack bending up from the chip that has appeared sometime in the last week. Given how fast that has appeared and now that days are getting hotter here in NC, I expect the crack will continue to expand with the daily heating and cooling.

So....I now have several questions for those that have dealt with a crack in the windshield before on a 9-3.

- Does Safelite cover this (i.e., was there any warranty on their repair of the chip)?
- Now that Saab is out of business, what is available for a replacement windshield?
Is what is available better or worse than perhaps getting an intact windshield off
of a parts car 9-3 of the same vintage?
- Any issues with leaks on new windshields on this era of the 9-3?
