This silencer is inserted into the 2" aluminum tube that is between the turbo compressor discharge and the intercooler. You need to undo the hose clamps at the compressor housing elbow (2) and at least one where the intercooler elbow clamps to the pipe.
Clean the areas around the joints to help keep dirt out while working on them. Wash and dry the pipe and elbow before refitting.
The insides of the air pipes will have oil in them. This is normal. Part compressor seal leakage, and part PVC blow by vapors.
The black plastic silencer will be seen in the pipe. It does not come out easily, and usually in pieces. Perhaps it can be knocked out from the far end, instead of yanking with pliers etc.
You should not have any problem fitting things back together. But for the record, do not put lubricants on the rubber joints, as this can lead to them blowing off under pressure. Perhaps some diluted dish soap if things are too tight to fit up.
Remember when smoothing the large end of the transition casting, to not taper it out. It fits into a step in the throttle body, and tapering it out would create a problem. But if you see that the the exit wall at the big end is too thick in places, you can work it down to match the ID in the throttle body. You can cut a strip of cardboard or something else to pick up the ID in the throttle body, and compare it to the casting to judge what the idea wall thickness should be. Better to be a wee bit smaller than bigger. Get some wet/dry sandpaper too. And use it with water or under a trickle at the sink.
Be careful grinding the casting. A vise or WorkMate will help. If you work free hand and the sanding drum binds, things will go flying and injury is likely.
