a/c malfunctions only on very hot days

Normally (and every time I've take my car to the Saab dealer) the a/c on my 97 900 SET works just fine, but on very hot days (over 90), after driving for a while, the compressor will shut off and the fan will blow hot air. After about 10 minutes it usually turns on again but by then it's about 90 in the car. This happens even if I've set the a/c to max and happens more often in city driving than on the highway (but happens there as well). My dashboard temp gauge doesn't seem to register too high a temp. Saab dealer A had no idea, and dealer B tried replacing the high temp cutoff valve on the compressor but the problem still occurred after that. They say they can't do anything unless they see it on one of those hot days when the problem occurs but that hasn't been possible for me (this past summer was a mild one in Boston). They also say that unless they witness it, there is no problem from a warranty point of view, which is a bit scary since my warranty runs out in a few weeks. Does anyone know if this is a common problem (the service folks didn't think so) or know if it can be diagnosed without having it be over 90 degrees out? I posted this question over a year ago and someone mentioned the high temp cutoff but I'm a bit desperate so any other advise would be most appreciated.
