Koni Rear Shocks--How to adjust?

Anyone know how to adjust Koni shocks (ones without the little adjuster on top)? I just purchased a set for the rear of my '90 9KT and, the best I can figure, you rotate the shaft inside the tube to adjust them. However, I have not found a reference or stopping point of adjustment, and have no idea how my shocks are set or how I can set them to a specific hardness or even match the two rear shock settings. Anyone with any knowledge on the subject please let me know. Thanks.
