This is very interesting. Please post if you ever get wind off any more related details. I can see the dealers skipping the pre delivery retorque. I asked about retorquing when the 95SET was new, and was told that it was not needed. Perhaps that does not mean much.
Do you know the details of how this retorque is carried out?
I assume that the automakers are very interested in getting head gaskets that will not settle and loose head bolt tension.
With tall aluminum heads, or all aluminum engines, the aluminum will expand faster than the steel head bolts or studs. This will lead to higher gasket loads at operating temperatures, and lesser loads with a cold engine. Then there were the Volvo PVR V6 all aluminum, but with floating iron cylinders. In that situation you might expect the cylinder gas seal to lessen at operating temperatures. That was a compex engine and it did not require retorqing. I had 220000 KM on that when the shop burnt down with it inside.
