The red and black check valve can be pried apart with a knife. Just do it over a table or bed, because there is a small spring and plunger inside that may pop out and become easily lost. I cut a new diaphragm from a plastic sheet (paint drop cloth), using a 3/8" hole punch. If you don't have such a punch then try to find anything about 3/8" in diameter (like an old ballpoint pen that screws apart in the middle) and cut around it with a razor blade.
The plastic diaphragm I made myself doesn't seem to get sticky like the rubbery original diaphragm.
