1996 to 1997 shift upgrade vs. hydraulic clutch

I am in the process of completing a purchase on a 1996 900SE turbo. The car has 35440 miles and is immaculate but shifts poorly. The clutch does not slip and my guess is that some adjustment is needed. In talking to a local service manager, he suggested a couple of possibilities with what the car has now, and a couple of upgrades. The upgrades would be to modify the shifting with a kit of parts that comes already installed on 1997 cars or secondly upgrading to a hydraulic clutch as on the 1998 cars. Has anybody done one of these upgrades and what is your experience. I did test drive a 1997 with 49000 miles and it shifted quite a bit better than the car I am buying.
In a separate issue: How does one get the email address of people communicating on this bulletin board.
TIA
David Greenberg
