The fact of the matter is is that most of the early NG 900 SET's problems were correctable under the original warranty. I had a few electrical glitches early on, but since then, my 94 900 set has been a stellar and totally dependable performer. Things to watch out for-- AC leaks, especially the evaporator core- a $1300 expense. Don't forget, it's winter time- and AC problems aren't evident. HAve the system checked for leaks before you buy. A leaky but freshly charged system will last for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before it gives up. Upper strut mounts (which I replaced myself for about $300 (including some upper strut bearings). Leaky (5 spd) seals in the trans, and also leaking rear engine seals. (I haven't experienced this problem, but others have.) Check the parking spot for telltale leaks where the hot vehicle has set for a while, or drive it and put some paper under the engine/trans to find oil/coolant drips. Some coolant hoses have been weak in the early models also. I had a heater hose spring a leak early on.
Actually though, considering the amount of miles on my '94, I have put FEW $$ into repairs. Maybe $2500 over the life of the vehicle so far. It just goes and goes, doesn't burn oil, and is fast as hell.
