When you say bumpy and like I am in a boat riding rough seas do you mean the car is sort of floating and moving up and down alot or do you just mean that the ride seems firm and harsh?
If you just mean that it seems harsh to you compared to other cars you have had this might be "normal". Some people seem to complain about the ride quailty of these cars. Personally, I don't understand what they are talking about and do not find the ride in any way uncomfortable or harsh. In fact compared to my 91 the ride seems too soft and cushy but what a person finds comfortable is an individual thing and depends on ones physical condition and past experience. The firmer ride is part of what contributes to the reasonably good handling of the vehicle. Car design like life is about compromises.
Also, keep in mind that if you are in a cold climate the ride may be a little harsher when you first start driving due to the cold but that shouldn't persist for too long.
If the issue seems to be more than just a relatively firm ride there could be something else up and the suspension components should all be carefully checked. It could be as simple as a few bad bushings or although very very unlikely something as major as a bad spring.
