A couple of weeks ago, my wife decided to take her 98 into the dealer for service before her 50K mile warranty expired. There was a rather loud "ticking" noise behind the dash that was most audible at idle with the radio turned off. The dealer kept her 900S for around 3 days while they ordered and installed a new power steering pump. After we took delivery of her car from the service department, her itemized receipt listed that they had replaced her battery amongst a few other extras.
Two weeks later (this morning) when she was about to head to work, the car took a long time to turn over and then finally sputtered to life. Our cars are garaged and the temperature was above 70 degrees this morning, so I couldn't really put my finger on the problem. She was happy at first, although perplexed because the battery was brand new. Then she came to realize that the SID was dead. Now that the warranty has expired, we're stuck with what seems to be the afteraffects of whatever the dealership "fixed" on her 900. I'm kind of considering finding a new dealership to service my 9-3. Regardless, does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Why a SID would go dead for no apparent reason?
Why a brand new battery would seem to be caput 2 weeks after it was installed? Very strange!
Thanks for any help,
Brian and Shan
