Torque steer is the commonly used word, but was originally intended to describe a similar, but still quite different phenomenon. They are right when they say torque steer is "the tendency of a high-powered, front-wheel-drive car...to pull to one side under hard acceleration." In "true" torque steer, the car does pull to one side (and one side only, no matter what the road conditions). However, Saabs will pull to either side depending on how rough the road is, the kind of tires, if you're on a slanted road, or in deep ruts.
"True" torque steer is, as already pointed out, a result of unequal length half shafts. This results in the torque to one wheel being unequal to the torque of the other. It is the difference in torques that steers the car, thus the name "torque steer." Since this certainly doesn't cause the funny Saab steering effect, the question has been raised as to whether or not the term should still be applied. It is already convention -- and quite widely used -- so we're pretty much stuck with it despite the inaccuracy.
I don't see any need to crusade against Edmunds or Car and Driver over such a technicality, but I do think it's important for people here to understand that what's happening in a early-nineties VW Golf GTi is in no way akin to what's happening in a Saab Viggen even though both yank the steering wheel around.
