In reply to Avatar's suggestion, as in my earlier descritpion the slow speed hand brake application makes the noise disappear (until the next Stop sign). The advice pointing at bad hand brakes is consistent and convinces me -= looks as if I need to be more assertive with the dealer to fix it. Does anyone know if the design of the drum is such that it could get out of round and end up touch the pad (or anything else) for a small part of each revolution? So far the suggestions lead to a problem with the pads, not the drum.
Thanks ... Dennis
