Did this yesterday, and works great. My car is a 1995 900S - don't know if the glovebox has changed in other model years.
I took the whole glovebox assembly out and played around with positioning the CD player and found that is fits perfectly (ie. NO room to spare) in a perfectly horizontal position towards the top. There's no light in the glovebox anymore, and I had to drill 2 holes for the M5 bolts that hold the CD player in place. Also had to expand the glovebox light hole to accept the 90 degree DIN connecter.
There's still room in there for the manual (below the CD player), and my sunglasses case fits above the CD player. Now, if I could just find a way to patch the two slits in the carpet in the trunk....
