I haven't had the check engine light come on with the tcs off light. I did have the check engine light come on intermittently last summer. It was time to replace the timing belt, it turned out that I had an idler pulley just about to freeze up. It got replaced and the light never came on. I do get a code stored with my tcs off light. It basically says it is an intermittent problem with the throttle body motor not opening and closing properly. My mechanic is going to take the throttle body and motor and clean it thoroughly. A new one is really expensive. I'm not sure how long codes are stored but you have a few days if you don't turn your car on and off a lot every day. Your problem may be due to the O2 sensor since the idle seems to be affected with the check engine light coming on. HTH
