Another noise...

I had suspected the inner driver in some vibration problems I had a few months ago, but an alignment seemed to solve it. I'm back to having a nice vibration (and plan to get a balance, BIG potholes here in Brooklyn definitely a suspect) but something new and strange:
I get a pop-pop-pop noise in time with the wheel turning at low speeds, definitely in front. It happens going straight ahead, and pretty much on turns, too. Clutch and brakes have no effect. I can't tell at higher speeds because the noise isn't that loud. Calipers/shields look good, I even checked the tires for objects lodged in them and nothin'...ack! And no, Ed, I didn't bleed on it this time! :)
Bad tripod? Something else I should look at? I noticed SAS lists whole driveshaft assemblies (with a picture of the WHOLE assembly) for $250. Seems like a good deal considering the driver cup from Saab is $400 alone.
Thanks -- fsik
