Nice to hear that others have the same problem, here's mine. My daughter bought a '95 p00S with the 2.3 non-turbo engine. The engine also has a distributor - not the DI system. She had the car for about 7 months without a problem. This past winter, she got stuck while skiing. The symptoms: The engine turns over but there is no fuel or spark. She takes it to a Saab dealer, who tells her that the alternator voltage is too low - you need a new alternator. after $400 problem still exists.
I have isolated the problem to the electrical syupply to the dashboard. That is, when the car doesm't start, the dash gauges (Temp & Gas level) will be dead. Also, the indiot lights will be very dim. Sometimes there is a buzzing (perhaps its a clicking) sound eminating from under the dash board.
I pulled out the relay board and began poking around. The buzzing was coming from the relay that controls the "Check Engine" light but I don't think that the realy is the cause of the problem only an indication. After a few weeks of investigation, I am starting to think that the ignition switch - or the wiring going to it may be faulty. Perhaps a loose or dirty connection. Unfortunately - as has been indicated here- the igntiion switch is a B___ch to get at. Anyone have any further ideas?
