I think Robert's VIN decode below is a good place to start... 2.0 Turbo 'S' models definitely exist, though much more common in Canada, therefore I think there is definitely a possibility (maybe even likelihood) that the car originated in Canada... a lot of cars (especially European) were exported from there to here after the Canadian Dollar crashed in late 1998... generally their odometer/speedometer were swapped from metric to imperial, and the cars went onto a used car lot... my girlfriend bought a 1998 Volvo S70 in 1999 for about 2/3 of the US list price... of course it was CDN, but I'd live with that for $10,000... Volvo dealers were paying more for them at auction at the time... one good place to check is various stickers (airbag/seatbelt stickers in the passenger compartment, various underhood stickers) if they are bi (bi-lingual, don't get too excited!!) then the car is probably from North of the Border... the closer you are to the border, this is more likely too... I find it difficult to believe that anybody would have gone to the trouble of doing an engine swap on what I'm presuming is a fairly fresh car... unless of course, the car has an 'interesting' history...
