The goose is cooked (bypass valve conclusion)

That is, no more honking. I read a couple posts where people mentioned that their turbo bypass valve was installed incorrectly. I had already bought a Bosch "upgrade" to correct the honking, and installed it the way the OEM valve was installed, but it didn't stop the honking. I checked my Haynes and it showed the valve installed the opposite way mine was, with the vacuum hose toward the driver side fender, not toward the front.
I was about to reinstall my valve, but thought, "What if Haynes is wrong?" So, I searched the web, and found an Audi turbo site that gives the proper installation and function of the same valve. This site confirmed the Haynes installation. So, I turned the valve around and no more honking! Just as others had described.
Now I'm worried that 6-7 years (it's a 95 900SETC) of reverse installation may have hurt the turbo, as this valve seems to be designed to protect the turbo under boost drop off. Any thoughts? And why do we think Saab would have let so many cars out of the factory with reverse installed valves?
