no high beams

my 96 900s had no high beams. i took the main headlight switch apart and found a wire melted down. it appears to be green with a brown stripe and may go to the low beam relay. has anyone had any similiar problem or has any one heard of a recall for anything like this. the flash portion of the highbeams work fine but they wont lock in. the meltdown seemed like it could be dangerous where no fuse blew and it was right in the middle of a large bundle. any help would be appreciated.
