Broken 9-3 Heater Knobs (Longish)

I have been involved in several discussions on this BB regarding stiff linkages and broken heater control knobs in 9-3s. I may have a resolution which might interest other owners.

At least 5 vent or heater knobs have broken on my base 1999 9-3. Both of the manual linkages have been extremely stiff since new. My dealer has replaced all knobs, lubed the linkages and once replaced the dash module which holds the knobs.

Yesterday we may have resolved the problem. My dealer installed (at no charge) a complete new REDESIGNED heater distribution box, dash panel module and linkages. The new new box is beautiful - smooooth! It is the one being used in 2001 Saabs. He had to remove everything in the dash to do it, but it is great. The heater controls now work like they should. I would recommend that repair to anyone with sluggish manual heater controls while they are still under warranty.
