I had the Saab synthetic gear oil installed when I had the trany resealed as while renewing the clutch while changing out an inexpensive engine rear seal. too expen$ive!
I did not notice any difference in feel etc. Perhaps some improvement in fuel consuption.
I expect that the seals were also different from the originals, and may be better or better suited to service with synthetic oil. My original trany seals were not having any obvious problems.
And a silly story... years ago, when I was still in university, yes, that long ago... I put heavy gear oil, EP90?, into a gear box. On cold winter days you could hear every gear tooth cutting that oil until it warmed up. Once underway, if you took your foot off of the gas and depressed the cluth, the gear box drag would slow the vehicle as if you were on the brakes. Once warmed up things were ok.
