i posted this a long time ago...here is a description of the problem.
i get a low pitched grumpling noise/vibration/rattle from "the front end"
when i let off the gas, and the car is somewhere in the 2-3k rpm range.

it has to be in gear and the gas has to be off. this is most noticable when taking an off ramp and i downshift and take my foot off the gas..
if i just even tap the gas it goes away, if i put in the clutch it goes away, if i take it out of gear, it goes away.

it is SIMILAR to the sound of the exhaust with little back pressure when you let off...but this is not it...

so i let the mechanic at the saab dealer take a listen, the first time in the winter, he never heard it...this time 6 months later, he could hear it.

know this is the rough part, im not sure of all the details here, but he said that there are some springs in the clutch assembly that can get loose. he has done repairs on that before, and that problem resulted in a similar sound/situation.

i was supposed to bring it in on friday for them to take a better look at it and give me the diagnosis...however, if i can get a better idea of what to ask about, i might go to an indie dealer and save some $$$....the dealer is $69/hr.

i know nothing about clutches and costs... if any of you have had this done.can you give me a clue as to WORST CASE senareo of costs??
the mech said they had to drop the tranny. anything else i should look at when to have done when they are in there???

thanks in advance.
