Convertible Top Problem Solved!! - Long Message

Thought I'd post a follow-up to my dilemma last week. I have a 97 900SE Conv. The top would not go up all the way. The SID said; "check soft top". I posted my problem on this BB and the advice back was problably a sensor in the bag in the trunk or perhaps the 5th bow motor (oh no - $600 to replace).
Forunately the dealer had one of 3 Master Saab Mechanics in Canada. Here's what he did. He opened the tonneau cover to expose the 5th bow motor that is under a plastic case on the tonneau cover. He checked to make sure there was power getting to the motor. Because this has happened to him before. He took a hammer and lightly tapped the bow motor. It released the mechanism inside the motor, and the top works fine. He also mentioned that the LH latch was out of adjustment and missing the set screw that keeps it in alignment. Which in turn could have caused the bow motor problem to seize, because the top was stetched too much and was too taunt. It also caused the microswitch in the windsheild frame to bend. But he says as long as it works, then no need to replace either.
Lessons learned: 1) don't fiddle with latches on the top, 2)understand some of the potential problems you might be facing before going into a dealer ( via the TSN BB). They were dead set on replacing the 5th bow and putting in a new microswitch set...potential bill $1000+. Sorry for the long note and hope it helps!!
