They're not opening your tranny? That could be good news...
Townsend has an article on their site about the various trans lubes (townsendimports.com) and they swear by the Amsoil stuff. They had a customer use RedLine and the tranny ate itself, but they were very quick to point out that they couldn't prove it was the Redline, the box may have died no matter what was in there.
There's also an ugly rumor that the Saab synth is Redline MTL in another bottle. I have both and they both have the same color, smell, feel. Of course, that means very little without analyzing it...
People have mentioned using the synth gear oils from RedLine, AMSOIL, Mobil1, and Castrol here ... I think it's a matter of getting away from the 10w30 dino juice. I currently have RedLine MTL in there, I'm probably going to drain/fill again, as I have a couple quarts of the real Saab stuff around. It takes a couple hundred miles for the full effect, after about 750 miles, mine's smoother than ever before on the MTL.
That said, you might spring for the Saab stuff so if there's any problems going forward they can't blame them on the MTL.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
