Actually, I know the noise he's talking about, if you're under the hood when it happens, it's loud enough to be mistaken for a warning buzzer. Like an old seatbelt buzzer. You have to have the have the hood open and jump out of the car while you're turning the ignition off to catch it.
According to the factory info, the DI does stay active and does a burn-off for 5 seconds (210 sparks/sec) every time the engine's shut off. I don't know if that's mentioned in the owner's manual, tho, maybe only the igniton key trick.
