What's the point of an e-brake if you have to keep it in reverse?
For reasons not clear to me, my 94 900 e brake, when out of adjustment, will hold on a hill in reverse motion, but not forward. However, when in proper adjustment, it holds in both directions. As long as the shoes release and allow the wheels to spin free when the brake is taken off, there is no way to damage shoes. There is both a shoe adjustment in the drum, as well as an undercar cable adjustment. (Presumably, the cable adjustment is to remove cable stretch that the shoe adjustment won't take care of.)
Imagine you telling a state inspection garage to put it in gear when your e-brake failed to pass its annual inspection. I don't think you'd have your tags very long.
