sudden power loss--fuel tank?

Hello all,

I've been trying to figure out this problem...just wanted to see what those here though.

Several weeks ago, I was driving at 70mph (oops...better mention, it's a 95 900S conv.) down the freeway when suddenly the car experienced a power drop--cruise control flipped off and if I floored the accelerator, but the best I could do was 35MPH. I pulled off to the berm...opened the hood to make sure I could hear the timing chain running and such, got back into the car, and then, magically, it could do full speed again.

So, I stopped off for gasoline about 15 minutes later, opened the gas cap, and there was a wooosh of air like I have never heard. Couldn't tell if air was going in, or out, but it was very long, very intense--like air coming out of a tire--definitely not your normal five second woosh.

The power drop and the big woosh havent happened since. What has happened though is this--I can't seem to fill the fuel tank. I'll get to the point at which the fuel light comes on, and the best I can do is put 11 gallons in (the gas pump won't allow any more) which the fuel gauge claims is a bit under 3/4's of a tank. I can't tell if this is a fuel gauge problem, or there is something else going on in the tank that I can't determine.
